Brenda Rowlandson Somatic Psychotherapist

I am a Somatic Psychotherapist and Counsellor in private practice in Bondi Junction in Sydney's Eastern Suburbs.

I am a certified counsellor and also hold a Graduate Diploma of Psychotherapy (Somatic). I have been in full-time practice since 1994, working mostly with adult individuals (18 years and over). My approach is warm and collaborative, and my responses will be based on your reason for coming, not on any other agenda. I have spent many years in my own personal therapy which has helped me to understand what it’s like to be in the client’s chair.

Taking That First Step

I am able, because of my own experience of long-term psychotherapy, to understand what it feels like to be a client in therapy who is grappling with the impact of difficult, uncomfortable and vulnerable feelings, or dealing with the shock of life-shattering events.

My Theoretical Approaches

Theoretically, my work encompasses a range of contemporary modalities woven together in a psychodynamic base, with emphasis on somatics (body-mind interconnection), emotional regulation, mindful awareness, attachment theory, current research on neurobiology and brain plasticity. This flexible array of theories and concepts will help us to make meaning of events in your past and shed light on the patterns which are causing current difficulties in relationships with your life-partner, friends, family or co-workers.
